I thought the blurb for this book was interesting so I thought why now give it a try, besides its got dragons and you all know I love dragons!

This is a bit of a fairytale-esq ( I know, I make up the strangest words) type of read. It is quite predictable but most times I don’t mind that as long as the journey from start to finish is fun and entertaining.

The world building I thought was not really great, I never quite felt like I was transported to this medieval time as the only things that hinted at it were the use of scrolls, the words that they used and the fact that dragons and magic exist.

The plot was clever, I liked that the author gave a bit of background to the reason Addie was so enraptured by Zayne.

It took me a while to like Zayne, he just didn’t seem genuine enough to me but after a while I actually really liked him. For once the main female character was bearable. I liked Addie a lot, she showed her strength and independence, and in my opinion handled the situation she was in quite well.

If it was me I would have been cursing people out left right and center (just glad it’s not me…moving on) The romance was ok with quite a bit of steam, which I think the author executed tastefully. I really felt sorry for Queen Helena, who is in a marriage with so much unhappiness. I do hope if this story continues in a book 2 she will have the opportunity to find love.

I liked how the book ended, there were no loose ends although I would have liked to hear more about Zayne’s father the king, as he seems to have fizzled into the background at some point. The other secondary characters in the book were great although none of them left a lasting impression only Berinon, even Rosalind was really super annoying.

If you like a fantasy with a sprinkle of fairytale dust, then by all means this is for you!
