Hooked by Love (Bellevue Bullies, #3) by Toni Aleo
on December 28th 2015
Things are out of control for the Sinclair boys! With two already in the NHL, Jace Sinclair is ready to follow in his brothers’ HUGE skates in the last Bellevue Bullies novel…
Jace Sinclair here, and I’m amazing. There is no other way to describe me. I am the leading scorer for the Bellevue Bullies, I’m the captain, and people love me: my family, my teammates, my coach, and the NHL. I already have one foot in the draft and I’m ready. This is my last year in college–it’s basically a conditioning year to get me ready for the NHL, to further my game, and I have to be focused.
But then, it’s also my last year to have fun and not give a damn before my life really starts. Which means I’m gonna run through every girl I meet. That’s my plan. Because my one and only love is hockey. It keeps me warm even when it’s freezing. It’s always there when nothing else is. And it pushes me to be the best I can be. It’s my love.
That is, until I see her against a tree with a guitar. Avery.
The last thing I wanted was to meet anyone. My heart is on the bench because I’ve watched my mom get broken by the person I call my father, and I don’t want that for myself. I don’t want to be hurt by anyone. I can’t give them that power.
But my heart is begging for ice time, and I can’t control it around her.
I’ve always been in the background. No one has ever had time for me and that’s fine; I’ve learned to cope. Coming from a family where hockey is life, the last thing I want is some big, burly hockey player charging at me. I don’t have time for it, but Jace Sinclair isn’t one to be deked around. The thing is, I came to the University of Bellevue for one reason and one reason only. To make my dreams of being a singer/songwriter come true. To work in the industry and pay my dues. Become who I really want to be.
I didn’t want to meet anyone. I didn’t want to end up freezing the puck with him. It’s not what I want. I have demons. I have issues.
Living in the shadows, no one even knew until it was too late. But Jace wants to know.
He wants me. And that scares me the living hell out of me.
We were so worried about what would happen if we fell, but we never thought what could happen in the process of falling. We never saw it coming. But it’s here, and the repercussions are not pretty. We should have known that there is no way out of the zone when you are being Hooked by Love.
Series: Bellevue Bullies #3
Book 3, and the final book in the Bellevue Bullies series. This book could be read as a standalone, however as the series revolves around 3 brothers, I recommend reading them in the order in which they were written to get the full backstory.
Jace Sinclair has a dream and it all revolves around the NHL. Having watched both his older brothers move into the professional ranks, and having missed out on the draft last year due to injury, Jace is determined to follow their footsteps and join them. The baby of the family, he has always been indulged.
He adores his siblings and his mother, but his relationship with his father, who is estranged from the family, is complicated. For now he will accept the money that he is being offered, much to the disgust of his brothers and sister. But the main goal from his final year with the bullies is to party and be the player that his eldest brother Jude was. He wants to become a legend in his own right and be the best Sinclair at everything. Nothing and no one will get in his way… Until he heard her.
Avery Rose is setting a new path. Having arrived in Bellevue to study music, she hopes to leave the past few years of her life back in Jersey where they belong. Life has thrown Avery some curveballs, hell it’s been tough. But if she has realised anything from the past few years, it is that she is a fighter.
Coming from a family of 3 brothers, 1 of which is her twin, and parents that treat her like an afterthought, Avery is ready to do things for herself, rather than follow the hockey dreams of her brothers; she seriously hates hockey. The black sheep, she is determined to free herself from the restraints of her family and become a person that she can be proud of. Focusing on music is her goal, until the college hockey star enters her world.
Once again Toni Aleo has written a book that is not only different to the previous ones, but one that is unexpected. If you have read the previous books, you will know that Jace is the cheeky chappy, very cocky and oh so sure of himself. He comes into his own in this book and the maturity he shows around Avery is surprising.
Avery is a very different character to other females Toni has created. Her story contains a very real and very serious subject matter. In my opinion, Toni has treated it very sensitively, whilst balancing it out with a gorgeous love story. With lots of twists and turns, expect the unexpected. It is a longer book than normal, but the storyline certainly warrants it.
Another great read and fab final instalment from the Sinclair brothers. I am so glad that Lucy will get a story in an upcoming book. Hopefully we may get some cameos from the boys… I’m not sure I am quite ready to say goodbye for good just yet!
