Bodyguard – Book Review

This is a standalone story in a series of interconnected characters.

Protecting a celebrity in Hollywood isn’t easy, but protecting Emily could break his heart.

As a world-class dancer at the height of her career, Emily enjoys all the perks of fame—the parties, the glamour, the tours—but they’ve also attracted the attention of a dangerous ex-boyfriend hell-bent on getting her back.

Enter Carter Kincaid, a bodyguard so crushingly sexy he takes her breath away.

Carter’s the best in the business, and Emily is—professionally speaking—off-limits. But when it comes to stirring his desires, she’s making all the right moves. What’s happening between them is so hot it could get both of them burned. As Emily’s past gets closer, Carter is willing to break every rule of the job to save her. But letting Emily into his life also means letting her in on the secrets of his own past. For these two, falling in love could be the greatest risk of all.

Emily and Darlene have been best friends since they were kids. After college they decided to move to California and try to make it big. When Darlene made it to the big time she was more than happy to hire Emily to be her choreographer, leaving Emily plenty for her new life.

Carter Kincaid is a former cop turned bodyguard. He’s one of the best at what he does. Carter grew up with a huge chip on his shoulder, but was able to turn his life around to something good. His family comes first no matter what and would do anything to keep them safe. He’s stoic and alert and goes by the book. And, he’s hot.

When the order of protection expires on Emily’s stalker ex-boyfriend, Darlene gets very protective. She assigns the best of her security team to look out for her best friend. Can Carter keep his attention on his job when Emily catches his eye in this forbidden love story?

April’s Book Review:
This is the second Reiss book I’ve read, and I am so impressed with her versatility. The first book I read of hers was King of Code, which I loved. It was dark and gritty with little puzzles woven throughout the book. I was expecting Bodyguard to be similar. I thought it would be something dark and ominous, maybe a kidnapping. Nope. That’s not what this book is like at all. There is so much love and hope. This book is about potential and becoming what you were meant to be. I was not ready for the raw emotion of this book, but I’m so glad I found it.

After we read this book, the girls and I all discussed it, and CD Reiss has made our list of one click authors.

Aracely’s Review:
Bodyguard by C.D Reiss is a heart pounding story. It kept me on my toes waiting for the other shoe to drop. Emily has made mistakes in her life that are not only putting road blocks with being with Carter but also living her life. When Carter’s family is threatened he must choose if he is ready to let Emily into the tangle of his life.

Both Emily and Carter must figure out if they are able to take the risk and let one another into the messy parts of themselves.

This was my first C.D Reiss book and you can bet it won’t be my last! Happy reading!

Kristen’s Review
I loved this book. LOVED.

I have only read one other CD Reiss book, and this book turned into an automatic one click for me.

My first impression of the Bodyguard, I thought the female main would be the star, the show stopper. And it was so interesting for it to not be! Emily is JUST the friend and choreographer… of world famous Darlene McKenna.

Carter Kincaid, mmmm… sexy Carter Kincaid, aka bodyguard, aka ex-cop, aka every amazing piece of consuming, conundrum this world has to offer.

Both are hiding, one from a stalker and one secrets from a lot of people.

But both build inner strength from the other to fight through it.

Read this book!

Why did we choose this book:
In preparing for LoveNVegas 2017 we created a TBR list of the attending authors. We noticed that Reiss has a new release coming soon. Knowing what great authors attend LNV we decided to sign up for an ARC.

Who should read this book:
This book is an amazing story, and anyone that loves romance will love this book!

An ARC was generously provided in exchange for an honest review.
