I’ve been waiting on Lover Mine for quite some time…and I wasn’t disappointed in the least! JR Ward certainly worked her magic : D

Throughout the Black Dagger Brotherhood books, we’ve witnessed John Mathew’s journey and what he’s overcome. Poor boy  : ‘ (

John has always been different. He’s mute. He had something horrible happen to him as a child, added with a debilitating case of no-self-confidence. Self-Hatred. He’s small, and weak. He doesn’t know that he’s a vampire. Everything about John has counted against him.

That mostly changes when he finds out the truth at 21. He’s a vampire. All pretrans vampires are small and scrawny and weak. But when they transform…the Brother’s in particular become tree trucks. They muscle up (a lot), they grow fangs and thirst for blood. They can have sex. They can mate. They’re strong and nearly invincible.

Like John. After all he’d been through, he’s finally become what he’d always wanted to be.

Xhex has had a hard life, too. As a sympath, no one trusts her or wants to be around her. She trusts no one but Rehv, iAm and Trez–a fellow sympath and Shadows. She loves John…but pushes him away. I love Xhex! She’s a badass in her own right, and though John by NO MEANS needs protection, she tries.

“You don’t go after what’s mine. Now be a good boy and gut yourself.”

Lover Mine starts off right where Lover Avenged left off. Xhex, the one John loves (though it’s not reciprocated) is kidnapped by the enemy. Xhex, a sympath is normally a nearly invincible enemy. Add that with her assassin-status and you’d be shocked something like this could happen to her. But it has. Kidnapped by the son of the Omega (the enemy king-pen), who has extra powers in his arsenal, and also happens to be the only member of the Lessening Society that isn’t impotent and feeds. Suffice to say, Xhex is in hell.

But John Mathew is ravaged. It’s been four weeks, and there’s no sign of Xhex.

John Mathew is reliving everything that’s ever happened to him. Weak, once more, crippled by his inability to find his female. Unwanted.

OMG guys, it’s other block-buster book of JR Ward’s! F**k but that woman can write! It’s just… it’s so good guys. Nothing better than a possessive alpha male—and we get plenty of that action! Another favorite of mine is when a tough-as-shit person (male or female, the latter in this case) lets down her walls, allows herself to be vulnerable to her man.

That’s the ultimate trust, trusting someone with yourself. The self you never thought you could be. There were some bumps in the road, of course. John, being a bonded male, is protective of Xhex. Xhex, having undergone hell, is hell-bent on serving up her revenge herself. Hehehehe–alpha tussels!

Besides that pair, we get more advancement on Qhuinn and Blay!! Those two just need to kiss and make up, already. Oh, wait…

Lots going on, guys. PLEASE, if you haven’t picked up a Brotherhood book… DO SO NOW!!!
